8th Annual FGCU Adaptive Sports Expo

October is Disabilities Awareness Month, and in an effort to raise awareness, Florida Gulf Coast University Division of Student Affairs and the Office of Adaptive Services invite Southwest Florida to the Eighth Annual Adaptive Sports Expo held on the FGCU campus. The event runs from Thursday through Saturday, October 2-4, 2008, and will highlight some of the ways people with disabilities can be active participants in both recreational activities and sporting events.

October 2nd
Join Guest Speaker, Kevin Connolly in the Student Union Ballroom at 7:30pm. Connolly was born without legs and travels the world documenting stares he receives from bystanders.
October 3rd
Make plans to attend the Caribbean Pool Party! Enjoy in and out of the pool activities from 4:30-8pm at the FGCU Aquatics Center. Arts and Crafts, Steel drum band and dinner will also be provided.
October 4th
Adaptive Sports Expo registration starts at 9:30am in Alico Arena and includes sports and leisure activities such as water-skiing, sailing, kayaking, aquatics, wheelchair basketball, tandem biking, tennis and an accessible climbing wall.

Professionally trained facilitators and athletes with disabilities will provide demonstrations and instruct participants in a variety of recreational and sporting activities in a non-competitive environment.  Attendees will also be exposed to a variety of local service agencies, vendors and groups involved with recreational opportunities through an informational exposition, which takes place in conjunction with planned sports activities.
