Edison College is providing workshops where an experienced General Knowledge instructor provides diagnostic tools, practice tests, remedial instruction, and practice problems to help prepare for the General Knowledge Test.

HFA Living with Grief Teleconference

HFA (Hospital Foundation of America) presents the 15th Annual National Bereavement Teleconference to focus on the experience of grieving children and adolescents and the best ways to support them as they cope with loss and grief. Frank Sesno, Professor of Media and Public Affairs at The George Washington University will lead a panel of experts to address the issues and respond to questions from the audience after the teleconference.

The Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes
The Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes seeks nominations for its 2008 awards. The Barron Prize honors young people ages 8 to 18 who have made a significant positive difference to people and our planet. The award hopes to support their service work or higher education.

Captain Planet Foundation Grants for Youth
Captain Planet Foundation Education Grants support hands-on environmental projects for children and youths that encourages innovative programs and empowers children and youth around the world to work individually and collectively to solve environmental problems in their neighborhoods and communities.
Maximum Award: $2,500.
Eligibility: 501(c)3 organizations.
Deadline: March 31, 2008.

CLAST Preparation Workshop
Edison College is offering preparation workshops for the College-Level Academic Skills Test (CLAST) this spring/summer. CLAST skill support materials, including testing tips, as well as remedial materials, will be provided by a well-qualified CLAST instructor holding a MA degree.

If the concepts and vocabulary of science are not taught in grades one through four, students in middle school and beyond will be faced with an inordinate number of challenging words, representing complex and unknown concepts. In this presentation, Elfrieda H. Hiebert, Adjunct Professor at the University of California at Berkeley, will discuss the need to make science vocabulary education a priority in grades one through four.
