If the concepts and vocabulary of science are not taught in grades one through four, students in middle school and beyond will be faced with an inordinate number of challenging words, representing complex and unknown concepts. In this presentation, Elfrieda H. Hiebert, Adjunct Professor at the University of California at Berkeley, will discuss the need to make science vocabulary education a priority in grades one through four.

The Family Network on Disabilities of Florida and collaborating partners will host a mini-conference, “On Track to Transition,” for parents, students, and professionals on Thursday, February 21, 2008, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at Abilities of Florida in Clearwater. There is no charge for the mini-conference, and a free continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Infants and Toddlers First Annual Conference

Infants and Toddlers Circles of Care™ is a non-profit, one-day, action-packed educational event conducted by Child Care of Southwest Florida with the Office of Continuing Education, Edison College, Collier County Campus and a number of recognized educators of infant and toddler care givers. Child care providers, mothers, nannies, and babysitters are all invited to come and learn how to care for little ones. There will be keynote speakers during lunch and during the day, hour-long concurrent sessions will be held in the classrooms and meeting rooms in the conference center.
